Main Responsibilities 

The Portfolio Manager will drive and provide oversight assurance across a portion of the overall change portfolio. Partnering with delivery and product teams, they will monitor portfolio performance, anticipate risks, and drive effective mitigation strategies.

 

The role will engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clear communication, alignment, and collaboration across the portfolio. They will proactively resolve critical challenges, provide data-driven insights, and support executive decision-making to strengthen portfolio governance and optimise strategic outcomes.

 

  • Provide oversight and assurance across the change portfolio, execution plans, and outcomes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional portfolio activities, managing interdependencies and maintaining a forward-looking view to support proactive decision-making and risk mitigation
  • Oversee portfolio dependency management, ensuring seamless integration between workstreams, portfolios, and wider to optimise execution and minimise delivery risks
  • Lead key steering committees, ensuring structured, insight-driven discussions that support effective decision-making and portfolio governance
  • Lead portfolio level risk and issue management, identifying systemic risks, tracking key themes, and implementing effective mitigation strategies to unblock critical initiatives and safeguard delivery timelines
  • Drive portfolio level resource management, maintaining a portfolio-wide resource plan, enabling strategic prioritisation, and forecasting future capability needs
  • Own and manage portfolio level financial reporting, ensuring financial discipline through monthly reconciliations, forecasting, and investment optimisation
  • Leverage portfolio data, analytics, and management insights to drive data-informed decisions, optimise investment allocation, and enhance strategic portfolio outcomes
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement, by refining ways of working, increasing workflow, and driving operational excellence across the change portfolio
  • Actively promotes and ensures adherence to the Bank's Risk Management framework and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation of concerns to relevant senior stakeholders.

The role holder will have extensive experience managing large-scale portfolios in complex environments, with a proven ability to integrate delivery execution, governance frameworks, and financial management. They will demonstrate expertise in optimising investment decisions, enhancing portfolio value, and driving performance through proactive risk management and strategic stakeholder engagement.

 

  • Extensive portfolio management experience 
  • Professional certification and experience across both Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Strong ability to align the portfolio with the broader business strategy, ensuring projects deliver maximum strategic value
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and anticipate future needs or risks, guiding the portfolio in a direction that supports long-term organisation success.
  • Team Player. Enjoys collaborating with, learning from, and guiding others.
  • Skilled in managing time effectively, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, solve problems, and make decisions.

  • Proven track record of influencing senior executives and facilitating alignment across complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely to all levels of stakeholders
  • Experienced user of enterprise portfolio management tools, JIRA, Confluence, Teams, SharePoint, Excel and Power Point.
  • Problem-solving abilities and a results-oriented mindset, identifying issues and driving resolutions to conclusion with minimal management support
  • Strong understanding of Change risk, governance and controls in a regulated environment
