The opportunity
Handelsbanken has adopted the three lines of defence model (3LoD) which includes an independent Compliance function whose role is to work proactively to help ensure that the bank operates in a compliant manner, adopting a risk-based approach to monitor compliance with regulatory and internal requirements and providing advice and support on measures to be taken to ensure compliance. Under the 3LoD model UKT are responsible for the managing the risk of its activities and so require the capability to cover compliance areas specified by the 3LoD model. This includes regulations, policies and controls directly applicable to UKT and supporting other 1st Line areas.
The UK Technology Regulation function manages the overall assurance approach and has several specialist roles within that. The roles will undertake assurance of compliance for all applicable regulations, policies and controls through operation of the annual Assurance plan.
This role reports to the Head of Technology Regulation.
The roles main functional responsibilities include:
- Conduct reviews and assurance testing, providing UKT senior management with assessments of whether the UKT department is compliant with all directly applicable regulation, policies, frameworks and controls and can support other 1st line functions in meeting their obligations.
- Input into and operate an annual assurance plan to draw together a number of assurance activities across UKT ensuring a comprehensive approach to assurance for the function.
- Conduct adhoc, post-problem investigations at management request, providing root cause analysis and recommendations for improvements.
- Managing a register of applicable regulation for UKT to allow assurance across diverse and interlocking regulations.
- Prepare management reports on status and issues and present status at formal committees.

- Experience of Financial Services UK regulation and performing assurance activities in a Financial Services organisation
- A background in compliance and /or audit work including engaging with UK regulators on complex topics.
- Audit and assurance planning and operating activities for an IT department including carrying out regular and ad hoc assurance testing of IT activities.
- A strong understanding of IT methods, components, capabilities, operating model and strategies.
- A deep understanding of relevant regulatory requirements for IT departments (e.g. Outsourcing, Operational Resilience, OCIR etc)
- Excellent attention to detail, tracking and coordination of actions and plans.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with experience presenting at senior Level.
- Ability to understand complex problems and focus on the critical issues, providing solution recommendations.
- Ability to work well within a Financial Services ‘Group & Subsidiary’ organisation with teams both within the UK and internationally.
- Ability to work on several initiatives at any given time and prioritise effectively.
