Job Introduction

You will be joining the expanding UK Technology (UKT) team and will be working with colleagues to develop and prove Low Level Designs for cloud-based platform solutions to meet the Bank’s technical and business needs as we undertake an ambitious IT modernisation programme.

 You will partner with other teams across UKT including developers and security experts to ensure that the requirements for the cloud infrastructure are captured and reflected in designs and implementation plans and with teams in our parent Group in Sweden to ensure solutions are able to be supported within the Group cloud environment.

The UK Bank is undertaking a significant technology modernisation programme; you will be working to ensure that the cloud infrastructure implemented to support this is efficient, scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.

 The ideal candidate will have extensive hands on experience working with cloud computing technologies and have a deep understanding of security and best practices. They will be a highly motivated individual with strong communication and analytical skills. You will will need to work collaboratively to develop designs and develop platform solutions to support the Bank in harnessing the full potential of cloud technologies to drive business success.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and design cloud solutions that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Plan and architect cloud infrastructure, supporting the agreed network architecture, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Carry out experimental and early development activities to support the Low Level Design process.
  • Provide support to ensure cloud environments can scale to meet growing demands and provide optimal performance. Design and develop auto-scaling and load balancing solutions as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enforce security best practices, including data encryption, identity and access management (IAM), and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Engage with Enterprise Architecture teams and contribute and present to UK Technical Design Authority when required.
  • Working with cross-functional teams, including developers, DevOps engineers, and security experts and ensure seamless integration and operation of cloud solutions.
  • Work with disaster recovery and business continuity teams to ensure data resilience and minimal downtime.
  • Take into account Infrastructure As Code (IAC) practices in your designs to ensure repeatability of provisioning and management tasks.
  • Understand and contribute to the technical architecture of existing and tactical on-premise solutions.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of architecture, configurations, and procedures.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies, trends, and best practices to make informed recommendations and drive innovation.

  • Strong practical experience designing, building and operating cloud environments, preferably in the banking or financial services sector - this role requires a deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, infrastructure, security and best practices.
  • Experience of implementing Cloud Environments using Infrastructure As Code tooling (eg Terraform, Bicep)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Bachelor's / masters degree (or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, or a related field is desirable.
  • Professional certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect) are desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms and services.
  • Good project management skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels of the organisation and represent Handelsbanken plc effectively.
