Main Responsibilities 

Sanctions and Screening is responsible for first line of defence in prevention, detection and investigation of relationships with a Sanctioned Individual, individuals convicted of a Financial Crime or a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) and ensures compliance with the Banks policy, risk tolerance and regulatory requirements.

The Department are responsible for the receipt and investigation of Payment and Customer screening alerts in relation to Sanctions, PEPs, SOC, SIPs, OOLs, Adverse Media and internally managed lists.  Investigations are also conducted relating to Sanction Designations and Trade Finance/Asset Finance deals. The Department also review country related payment exceptions in line with the Banks risk tolerance as well as alerts relating to the Revised Wire Transfer Regulation, completing all follow on actions and making recommendation to support the on-going risk management of the customer.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a Sanctions and Screening  Management Team and act as delegate for the Head of Department as appropriate and when required
  • Line management responsibility for the Operational Teams
  • Manage the day to day activities including work flow management 
  • Ensure the team is fully resourced and equipped to handle work flow at all times
  • Act as the first point of escalation for any queries related to the work flow, process, procedures and any risks and issues that have been identified through the work completed by the team
  • Work Closely with the Data Analytics and MI Team to support and produce accurate and timely MI in a format which is clear and engaging in relation to Analyst work streams completed
  • Involvement in risk assessments and incident meetings with Financial Crime and Operational Risk teams and relevant business stakeholders to agree and implement actions to address control failures and gaps
  • Support staff with their development through the training pathway, conduct performance reviews and contribute to performance feedback to ensure training needs of individuals are identified and met

  • Understanding and/or experience of KYC, Sanctions and business and/or banking processes, especially around account opening routines and payment/transaction processing system and the UK regulatory environment 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure with attention to detail, presenting information in a clear and concise manner
  • Flexible, adaptable and excellent time management in order to effectively to manage and prioritize workloads within the  changing business needs
  • Excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities
  • Be self-motivated and able to work on individual basis as well as part of a team
