Main Responsibilities
We are looking for a User Research Intern to join our Strategic Design team within the Digital function at Handelsbanken UK.
During your internship, you will work alongside experienced user researchers, service designers and UX designers to help the bank better understand the needs of its customers and colleagues. The team plays an important role in ensuring the products and services we design are grounded in real customer insight. There is potential to gain exposure to research across the full product lifecycle, supporting discovery work, usability testing and insight synthesis that helps shape the future of digital banking at Handelsbanken. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop practical research skills in a collaborative, cross-functional environment while contributing to real projects across the bank.
Our Summer internship programme runs from 29th June to the 4th September. We are looking for individuals to commit to the full ten week duration of our internship programme. As an intern you’ll follow a structured programme:
- Real insight into our culture and organisation.
- Opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within Banking.
- Understanding the core principles of our business, before taking on your own responsibilities that will see you gain hands on experience and develop skills for the future in a friendly and supportive environment.
- You will be assigned a buddy and have regular check in with your line manager.
- During the programme you will also work with other interns on a business project, giving you the opportunity to further develop your team work, creative thinking and presentation skills.
- By the end of the placement you will have delivered work and projects that add value to the Bank, developed your skills and have the potential to continue your career with us.

During the internship you may support the team by:
- Assisting with planning and preparation of user research activities such as interviews, surveys and usability testing
- Supporting research sessions with customers or colleagues and helping capture observations and insights
- Helping analyse qualitative and quantitative research data to identify patterns and key themes
- Supporting the creation of research outputs such as summaries, insight reports, journey maps and presentations
- Working with UX and service designers to translate research insights into improvements to digital products and services
- Helping maintain research repositories and documentation so insight can be shared across the organisation
This role will give you exposure to how customer insight shapes product decisions, service design and digital strategy within Handelsbanken.
