Job Introduction

Handelsbanken Plc’s finance department is responsible for statutory accounting and reporting, technical accounting, business/financial control, tax, and capital and liquidity planning and management. The in-house tax function is a small sub-department of finance, responsible for delivering and managing the UK’s tax strategy, operations, compliance and policies.
 
The Tax Manager will report direct to the UK Head of Tax, provide an additional point of contact for both HMRC and the business, and assist the HoT with developing junior staff and high profile ad hoc projects.
 
It is expected that the Tax Manager will want to further his/her career in tax, and be CTA qualified with previous solid (post qualification) experience gained with a top tier accountancy firm or at an in-house tax department.
 
The role will be based in Thomas Moore Square, London and the individual must be prepared to travel as required, both in the UK and occasionally to Sweden.

Main Responsibilities 

  • The Tax Manager will manage direct and international tax compliance and governance matters for the Handelsbanken group’s UK entities.
  • This includes preparation of UK corporation tax returns, transfer pricing reports, disclosures for inclusion in the statutory accounts, bank levy calculations, and internal memos/instructions.
  • They will operate in line with the Bank's Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager.

  • Strong professional competence and relevant experience in Tax 
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification (preferably in law) and CTA qualified
  • An excellent understanding of Tax
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to   analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Professional standard of presentation skills
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent Handelsbanken effectively 
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with impact with people at all levels 
  • Integrity and discretion
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Attention to detail and an organised approach to work
