Job Introduction

Since the Bank became a subsidiary to Handelsbanken AB publ in December 2018, it has been adapting to operation at a higher level of scrutiny and interest from external parties such as investors, regulators and government bodies. In addition the Bank continues to develop its analysis and focus on financial strategy and business performance. This position has been created to provide support to the Head of Financial Strategy and Change, UK CFO, UK CEO and executive management with support in the vital areas of strategic analysis, planning and corporate strategy. 

The role is based in London and reports to the Head of Financial Strategy and Change.

This role presents a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to gain a detailed knowledge of how the Bank runs and to add value by helping to inform the development of the UK business. Regular interaction with senior management and group colleagues. 

Main Responsibility

• Develop a stong understanding of the Bank and how it is performing against its objectives in the business plan and business strategy.

• Analyse key data across the Bank to support the Head of Financial Strategy & Change to develop and build better insights on key focus areas such as business trends, market, competitive landscape, customer behaviours and trends, business performance and peer comparisons; providing insights for business strategy.

• Support the Head of Financial Strategy & Change in developing UKE’s financial strategy including analysis of key areas such as liquidity and capital, profitability drivers, cost control and capacity for investment, including assessing any M&A activity the Bank considers.

• Support in further developing UKE’s role in sustainability for the Bank. 

• Work on various strategic projects across the Bank, providing input and insight into assessments and working with other UKE teams to model the impact of key strategic projects on the business, cost development and return. 

• Analyse the external market opportunity and business potential of the UK, to support the Head of Financial Strategy & Change to provide sound recommendations.

• Prepare analysis and presentations for key stakeholders including producing materials for ExCo and Board as required.

• The role requires the highest standards of discretion and respect for the confidential nature of the work involved.

• Operates in line with the Bank's Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks)     and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Professional competence
  • Excellent understanding of the Bank’s operational and steering model as aligned to our culture
  • Strong understanding of the UK Banking sector and related industries
  • Strong analytical skills
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to  analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely
  • Experience in fostering collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, functional leaders, and decision makers, providing influential advice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail and organisational skills,  influencing tactics and comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and responding to challenge
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion
  • Strong competence in using Powerpoint and Excel and relevant analytical tools
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
