The opportunity 

The Senior Supply Chain Manager is a strategic role that acts an umbrella throughout the Supplier Lifecycle. The Senior Supplier Chain Manager will establish relationships with senior management team to ensure that procurement is aligned with their particular goals, and to enlist their support in participating in supply base improvement efforts.  The process starts with demand management (via stakeholder management) that then drives supply analysis/strategy, supplier identification, sourcing execution, contract negotiation, delivery planning and monitoring, purchase execution, and then ongoing performance management and improvement.

The role will report to the Head of Supply Chain Services and will be predominantly responsible for leading a team of experienced sourcing, procurement and supply chain professionals, who will work with the various business units and suppliers selected to meet their needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver and apply best practice procurement, contract management and supplier management and create an environment where these are consistently adopted across business areas.
  • Leading, structuring and developing the Supply Chain Mangers (6 direct reports).
  • Empower, mentor and develop direct team members to ensure ongoing skills/knowledge growth, succession/resilience planning and self-sufficiency/ownership/responsibility as far as practically possible.
  • Provide support in developing and implementing sourcing strategies for key spend areas, working collaboratively with business stakeholders to deliver a combination of quick wins and longer term strategic reviews and initiatives with the Supply chain Managers.
  • Be responsible for working closely with UK departments to define requirements, assist with identifying vendors, lead RFX process and evaluations, negotiations etc for strategic projects.
  • Provide market insights into the sourcing process on projects within categories of expertise.
  • Negotiating with external service providers/suppliers to deliver best service and a value proposition.
  • Provide training, as appropriate, to business partners on Procurement & Supplier Management framework, policies, standards, processes, procedures and alignment with Global procurement processes.
  • Work collaboratively within the Team to drive process improvements. Sharing best practise within the team, create templates and ways of working.
  • Keeping up to date with procurement and supplier management industry changes.
  • Assisting Legal Counsel in negotiating terms of services/supply agreement.
  • Inspire and manage Supplier Chain Mangers and business stakeholders to identifying opportunities for cost savings/process improvements across the bank.
  • Actively manage and monitor adherence to procurement & supplier management process, governance and policy to ensure compliance against regulatory requirements for Outsourcing & Third Party Risk Management. 
  • Empower, mentor and develop direct team members to drive continuous improvement in the service provided to the Business and generate ideas and initiatives to stimulate an ongoing pipeline of enhancements.
  • Report on cost savings and third party risk and where necessary challenge operational requirements and supplier spend.
  • Actively promotes and ensures adherence to the Bank's Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation of concerns to relevant senior stakeholders.

  • Extensive category management, contract management and supplier management experience gained across a broad range of indirect categories.
  • Strong knowledge of the end to end Third Party lifecycle within financial services and FCA, PRA & EBA regulations/guidelines on outsourcing.
  • Proven track record of delivering sustainable cost savings, performance efficiencies and risk mitigation.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement & supplier management best practice tools, processes and systems.
  • Ability to coach, develop and lead direct and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to make sound commercial decisions.
  •  Excellent verbal communication skills, with experience presenting at C-Level
  • Ability to understand complex problems and focus on the critical issues, providing solution recommendations.
  • Experience in collating and analysing data.
  • Being a self-starter with the ability and willingness to work on own initiative and learn is essential.
  • Be educated to a degree level, have CIPS related qualification or equivalent 5+ year of Consultancy & Professional services experience.
