Handelsbanken for Intermediaries operations channel named ‘Broker Connect’ takes responsibility for handling selected intermediary introduced mortgages through their initial lifecycle. Where these opportunities align with our current relationship model and low risk credit appetite, Broker Connect manage the broker advised mortgage through to drawdown before passing over to the local branch to manage and develop the longer-term relationship. A strong partnership with our branch colleagues and intermediaries throughout this process is therefore essential.


The post holder will be responsible for the mortgage affordability assessment, credit and AML processes, along with ensuring the smooth passage of business through to drawdown. With recent experience either working for a UK lender and/or as a mortgage broker, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate many examples of recent broker RMC cases that they have completed.

They will maintain strong relationships with the ‘partnered’ intermediaries to ensure the smooth processing of business, providing weekly/ trigger event updates to the introducer, branch and client.

The post holder will be expected to establish and maintain strong working relationships with our key internal  stakeholders for this role which include: the Branch Network, specifically Branch Managers, Head of Connect, Head of National Intermediaries, Broker Connect Business Development Managers, Mortgage Support, Credit, Finance, Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit.


Main Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the smooth processing of new business introduced to the Broker Connect. Building relationships with the intermediaries and ensuring satisfaction through the provision of excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrating a sound understanding of, and an ability to work within the Bank's Credit Policy.
  • The ability to interpret financial information provided by customers, evaluate lending propositions, assess & formulate risk ratings correctly and structure transactions.
  • Using the appropriate Bank systems to complete credit applications and document regulated mortgage paperwork.
  • Maintain relationships with intermediaries and professional firms.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the mortgage and other individual banking products offered by Handelsbanken and a good understanding of competitor products, relevant industry and market driven trends.
  • Being able to demonstrate an ability to identify and recommend (to the receiving branch), the appropriate non MCOB regulated Handelsbanken product/s.
  • General administration, preparation of legal documentation for accounts and mortgages, maintaining customer’s files (including CDD/AML requirements).
  • Working with the rest of the team to ensure the highest levels of (i) customer service, and (ii) Good Administrative Order, as well as supporting branches achieve their new Private Mortgage business plan goals.

  • CeMap qualification is essential 
  • Experience of working with intermediaries, processing RMC’s
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to manually assess and underwrite a lending proposition, which often incorporates multiple income sources and non-standard collateral characteristics
  • A good understanding of the MCOB, being able to demonstrate a good track record of RMC completions,  satisfactory file checks and good customer outcomes
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Structured work practice and a strong sense of administrative order
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent Handelsbanken effectively
