Job Introduction
UK Technology (UKT) is responsible for architecting, developing and securing IT solutions for the UK Business (including Handelsbanken Wealth Management). This role sits within the Services & Infrastructure department that supports the Banks service delivery, technical infrastructure, end user support and IT continuity capabilities.
We are looking for monitoring, alerting and observability specialist to support the Services & Infrastructure function on a contract basis. You will support the Bank with an alerting and monitoring discovery exercise, acting as the lead and SME. You will help to prepare, plan and deliver the exercise to meet the approved scope and deliverables. This role requires you to both plan and execute so you should be comfortable context switching and getting hands on/into the detail. The organisation has a mixture of both modern and legacy systems and you should be comfortable with, and have experience of, a range of monitoring, alerting and observability maturity levels. This is not a technical role but you should have a good enough understanding of infrastructure and application technology to enable you to confidently converse with technical staff.
This role would suit a subject matter expert who is confident working with a wide range of stakeholder (technical, business, assurance, management, etc.) and would enjoy helping an organisation mature and develop its monitoring, alerting and observability capabilities.
This role is Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00 and is based in London. There may be a requirement to travel to either site to facilitate workshops or interviews.
Main Responsibility
Initially you will lead investigation/discovery to identify and document current monitoring, alerting and observability practices within the UK technology function, building an end to end picture of as-is practice and capability. You will then perform gap analysis against the banks end state objective (to-be) and help prepare a set of recommendations and options. This role will work across the UK technology department and cover both application and infrastructure monitoring.
- Documenting ‘as-is’ monitoring and alerting practices with application owners and support teams using interviews, workshops and 1-2-1s covering monitoring, alerting and observability processes, tooling, thresholds, triggers, etc.
- Conducting gap analysis between current practice and the Banks regulatory obligations and industry best practice
- Identifying and implementing immediate/short term improvements to ensure the organisation continues to meet its regulatory obligations in an efficient and effective manner
- Supporting the preparation of a ‘to-be’ vision covering options for tooling, process and support for future ways of working in order to meet the organisations regulatory obligations and supports its long term business goals
- Presenting back findings to department management team along with analysis, observations and recommendations for improvements
- Supporting the creation of a monitoring, alerting and observability improvement plan covering process, tooling etc
- Creating a standardised set of processes, procedures and reporting packs for use by BAU staff
- Providing training and support to a wide variety of teams, ensuring they’re familiar with the disciplines of monitoring, alerting and observability
- Reviewing post incident report findings related to monitoring and alerting and ensure lessons learned have been implemented
- Supporting technical teams to monitor, measure and report on system load, performance and security events.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Previous involvement in defining, planning and implementing monitoring, alerting and observability strategies
- Experience and awareness of ITIL
- Previous experience working in an environment with a mixture of maturities and monitoring, alerting and observability practices
- Professional standard of presentation skills
- Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent Handelsbanken effectively
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Attention to detail and an organised approach to work
Desirable
- Previous experience supporting a similar sized organisation to mature its monitoring, alerting and observability practice
- Understanding of Azure DevOps and CI/CD Pipelines and how to prepare teams for observability/DevOps
- Experience working in financial services or other, highly regulated industry
