Main Responsibilities 

  • Set the technology direction and roadmap underpinning the Bank’s Data Strategy and define then maintain the UK target data architecture and roadmap  (including the build out of enterprise data platforms and increased use of cloud technologies) 
  • Work with senior stakeholder across the business to both educate and drive adoption of the target data architecture
  • Establish data architecture frameworks, standards and patterns that ensure consistent Bank-wide storage, consumption, and distribution of data 
  • Establish and lead the Bank-wide approach and standards for data modelling  
  • As a key member of the  Architecture Council, establish effective governance processes which as a minimum; Monitors and ensures Bank-wide compliance with approved data architecture standard and patterns and Gathers input and manages changes to the target data architecture and roadmap 
  • Develop and own key data architecture outputs, including the catalogue of authorative sources 
  • Recruit and lead a small but high performing team of data architects and modellers 
  • Provide data architecture and data technology related subject matter expertise. Perform regular horizon scanning to identify and raise awareness of new and emerging data–related industry trends, technologies and regulatory changes 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to educate and raise awareness of the Bank’s target data architecture and helping to champion the move to a data-centric culture

  • Previous experience of either running a data architecture function, or as a lead data architect within a significant business or architectural area
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of designing and implementing target data architectures, standing up data architecture design and governance processes, Developing metadata frameworks, standard and approaches, Developing and implementing enterprise data catalogues and models
  • Practical experience of designing and architecting data solutions using a mix of Batch and real time data sourcing, big data and traditional warehousing, business intelligence and analytics tooling, and MDM technologies
  • Strong understanding and experience of cloud native data architectures, preferably Microsoft Azure
  • Background in financial services and a robust knowledge and experience of banking data sets. Understanding of data related regulation including BCBS239 is preferred
