Job Introduction
The role of Deputy Chief Compliance Officer (DCCO) is to support the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in their duties, as well as leading and managing the Compliance Advisory team and having oversight of the Compliance Governance and Reporting team. The role reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is based in London. The role has four direct reports. Travel may occasionally be required within the UK and to other countries in which the Bank operates.
Main Responsibility
The position has a number of responsibilities as set out below.
- Support the CCO with the oversight and running of the Compliance department within Handelsbanken plc, also involving regular liaison with the Head of Compliance in the Bank’s UK subsidiary. This will involve assisting the CCO in their responsibility to:
- promote a strong compliance culture within the UK operations;
- provide advice, guidance and support to the business on all compliance matters;
- ensure the relevant business units and departments and Bank staff are informed about the risks that may arise in connection with inadequate compliance (alongside UK Legal where appropriate);
- help ensure that compliance risks are effectively identified, reported/escalated and managed in a timely manner
- ensure timely analysis of new or amended regulations and other regulatory rules or guidance within UKQ’s area of responsibility, and inform the business units affected about them. Support the business with the implementation of regulatory change;
- ensure that compliance and regulatory matters are adequately considered and prioritised as part of the Bank’s change and prioritisation process and to provide support to the wider UKQ teams who are engaged in this process;
- provide support to the UK CEO and other Executive Management with all regulatory matters where required
- continue to promote the importance of maintaining good relationships with the regulators, ensuring timely and accurate regulatory interactions and building compentencies within the business around how to effectively engage with the regulators
- Be a key stakeholder in the product governance process, including being a member of the Product Committee. Provide support and advice to product and system owners to ensure new products are developed, or existing products amended in accordance with regulatory requirement.
- Member of key Committees and forums, including the Operational Risk Committee and Conduct Risk Forum, provide compliance and regulatory input to those meetings. Provide advice, support and recommendations as appropriate from a compliance perspective to Steering groups for major projects.
- Deputise for the Chief Compliance Officer when they are not in the office, including attendance at meetings when required.
- Lead and manage the Compliance Advisory team, ensuring that accurate and timely compliance advice and support is being provided and that emerging or crystallised compliance risks are being effectively identified, reported and escalated.

The Ideal Candidate
- A sound understanding of the regulatory environment and regulatory requirements in the Banking industry
- Previous compliance experience a necessity (either in house or consultancy experience)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely
