Data Governance Officer is a key role in our journey to becoming a data driven organisation
Working within the UK Data Management function, the role holder is responsible for contributing to the implementation, oversight, awareness and maintenance of the Bank’s approach to data governance. This includes contributing to the design, documentation and implementation of the data governance framework, policies, and related standards related to data management, EUDA management and Master Data management; supporting the establishment of the Bank’s operating model for data ownership and the Bank’s data governance committee structures.
The role reports directly to the Data Governance Lead, and is part of a small team of data governance officers responsible for embedding best practice data governance practices across the Bank.
Main Responsibility
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position's primary focus will be:
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure clear and robust governance policies and frameworks exist for data management, including data quality management, master data management and end user developed applications
- Implement data management policies and procedures, acting as a champion for data governance, raising awareness of data controls, and helping the business to unlock the value of data. Guide on what well governed and managed data looks like
- Support the communication and education of various stakeholders within the bank contributing to the embedding of a data driven culture in the Bank
- Perform regular horizon scanning, impact assessments and provide recommendations on new and emerging data-related regulation and industry trends
- Prepare, present and effectively communicate data governance issues and trends at data governance forums and management comittees
- Work to support the business and technology teams to rollout and maintain data management initiatives
- Provide advice and support on how data should be created and captured and maintained effectively, safely and collaboratively, working with data producers, data consumers, data owners and stewards
- Support and influence the definition of clear goals to improve data collaboration, data quality, and reduce data architecture complexity and information security risks
- Be passionate about data governance and continuously strive to promote data governance through the development of system and process controls
- Develop and maintain key reports covering data governance and management activities and metrics
The Ideal Candidate
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience embedding governance processes and standards in a regulated environment. You may have held data governance officer responsibility in an organisation or led the development of best practice or have been a Business Analyst working to deliver a large change project, partnering with business and technology preferably within a Financial Services environment
- Understanding of information management practices including information lifecycle management, data modelling, master data management and carrying out data audits and requirements gathering
- Experience of leading data governance initiatives that have provided tangible business value
- Experience of data quality management, master data management and reference data management
- Working knowledge of statutory frameworks such as CCPA, GDPR, BCBS and Data Protection Act
- Experience of leading projects and influencing a diverse stakeholder group, including senior stakeholders
- Ability to create positive relationships and communicate with a range of stakeholders
- Methodical with strong attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency are key
Role Qualification:
- Experience working in data quality, data governance, data management or as Business Analyst preferably within Financial Services
- Good understanding of data governance and data quality frameworks and approaches
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attendtion to detail and focus on continuous improvement
- Strong presentation skills both written and oral, experienced in presenting complex data concepts to a business audience i.e. running workshops and formal data governace meetings
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work well with impact with people of all levels
