Job Introduction

Operational Risk is responsible for supporting the management of operational and conduct risk within the UK bank.

 

Our purpose is to support the business achieve their goals through effective operational risk management, leading to good customer outcomes, reduced operational failures retaining focus on core business activities and protecting profit. To achieve this, we provide high quality analysis, advice and guidance on the management of operational and conduct risk to ensure the business complies with the relevant policies, frameworks and regulatory expectations.

 

The Conduct Risk Assurance Manager plays a key role in providing our stakeholders with assurance that their most important controls are working as intended to manage their biggest risks. This assurance enables the business to understand where there may be gaps and vulnerabilities in the management of our conduct risk.

 

The role will be responsible for leading, supporting and developing a team of Conduct Risk Assurance Analysts, whilst at the same time, ensuring timely and effective reporting / escalation to key stakeholders and driving continuous improvement across the customer outcome testing, thematic reviews, and conduct controls assurance processes.

Key Responsibilities

 

As the Conduct Risk Assurance Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Controls Office.

 

The role will be responsible for the following:

 

  • The line management of Conduct Risk Assurance Analysts within UKSR, which includes, but is not limited to, providing coaching, being a point of escalation / review, and providing general support.
  • Working in conjunction with the UK functions, develop an annual Conduct Risk Testing Plan which supports both compliance with the Consumer Duty and reflects the conduct risks faced by the bank. The plan should be risk-based and proportionate.
  • Developing and maintaining the Conduct Risk Assurance Methodology.
  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement across customer outcome testing, thematic reviews and conduct controls assurance processes.
  • Oversee the performance of conduct risk control assurance / customer outcome testing in-line with the annual Conduct Risk Testing Plan, and the Conduct Risk Assurance Methodology, with coaching / feedback provided where appropriate.
  • Completion of ongoing analysis, oversight and reporting of testing outcomes related MI.
  • Ensuring the timely escalation of key matters across UKSR, Senior Management and Risk Committees.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships across the wider risk management community within the organisation.
  • Attendance and input to the Conduct Risk Forum (CRF) and Operational Risk Committee (ORC) when required.
  • Provide training, awareness and communications to various business units as needed.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of instructions within the team.
  • Actively promotes and ensures adherence to the Bank's Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring timely and appropriate escalation of concerns to relevant senior stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate

 

  • Extensive experience in customer outcome testing, thematic reviews, and conduct controls assurance activities.
  • A strong background in people management / leadership.
  • Excellent planning and organising skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of the financial services industry, together with knowledge of conduct risk management and associated regulatory requirements.
  • Be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills and have an ability to lead conversations to ensure understanding.
  • Be comfortable challenging and influencing a range of stakeholders. 
  • Be able to work on their own initiative and enjoy the responsibility of delivering outcomes.
  • Be skilled in preparing high quality presentations for meetings and workshops.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, be a team player with a positive, supportive and engaged approach to change.
  • Have a good understanding of our business operation and culture.
  • IRM or ICA qualification or have a desire to progress towards achieving this (desirable).
