The successful candidate will have responsibility for the production of the Bank’s legal documentation and for providing legal support and advice to all areas of the bank in the UK.

Responsible for the upkeep of the Bank's internal instructions; working with product owners and other stakeholders in relation to modification and improvement of products and processes; and the preparation and delivery of training.

The successful candidate will join the Branch Support team reporting to the Head of Legal – Branch Support and will ideally be based in our Manchester office.

Main Responsibilities 

  • Drafting and negotiating facility agreements
  • Taking collateral as security;
  • Drafting and negotiating priority arrangements;
  • Deal structuring advice and resolving key transactional issues;
  • Assistance with transaction management on complex deals; 
  • Ensuring transactions are delivered properly, efficiently and in a timely manner;
  • Reviewing agreements prepared by external counsel;
  • Disseminating knowledge and learning gained from transactions to ensure the Bank is up to date on trends, best practice and key market issues; 
  • Working with and maintaining meaningful relationships with external legal counsel.

  • A qualified solicitor, preferred strong, relative experience ideally 4 PQE;
  • Prior experience within banking law;
  • Understand English law (knowledge of Scottish law would be a bonus, but not required);
  • Have a good understanding of the banking market and issues that commonly arise when negotiating legal documentation;
  • An ability to work independently and within a team environment;
  • Strong attention to detail; and
  • Be able to openly communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders
